The Indian benchmark indices opened lower on Monday. The Sensex opened at 80,141 points, a decrease of 463 points from the previous close. The Nifty50 index also opened lower, falling by 147 points or 0.6% to 24,383 points.

Market Recovery

However, the markets staged a recovery shortly after the opening. By the end of the day, the Sensex was up 0.22% at 80,783 points, and the Nifty50 was up 0.18% at 24,475 points.

  • Sensex Gainers: Nestle India, Infosys, HUL, ITC, and TCS were among the top gainers on the Sensex.
  • Sensex Losers: Kotak Mahindra, Reliance Industries, JSW Steel, HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, ICICI Bank, and Tech Mahindra were among the top losers on the Sensex.

Sectoral Performance

  • Gaining Sectors: Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Pharma were the top gainers among the sectors.
  • Losing Sectors: Nifty Realty, Nifty Consumer Durables, and Nifty Private Bank were the top losers among the sectors.

Broader Markets

The broader markets also showed weakness in line with the benchmark indices. The MidCap index dropped by 0.77%, and the SmallCap index declined by 1.34%.

Wipro was the top loser on the NSE, slipping as much as 7%.
