The Indian aviation market now effectively belongs to a handful of players, with Indigo and Air India establishing an almost duopolistic control over the market.

As of April 2024, the domestic market share based on passengers carried is as follows:

  1. Indigo – 60.6%
  2. Air India Group (Air India + Vistara + AIX) – 28.8%
  3. SpiceJet – 4.7%
  4. Akasa Air – 4.4%
  5. Alliance Air – 1%
  6. Star Air – 0.4%

Domestic passenger traffic reached 1.32 crore in April, marking a 2.42% year-on-year increase, indicating slow but steady growth.

The Indian aviation market is estimated to be worth $13.89 billion in 2024 and is expected to nearly double to $26 billion by 2030.

These dominant companies are well-positioned to capitalize on the booming aviation industry in the coming years.
